Mida CreekMida Creek

The creek covers around 32 square kilometers and is composed of extensive mudflats and mangrove forests that attract a wide variety of flora and fauna.

Along the sheltered creeks and estuaries you can see many species of mangroves. Spot the Pied Kingfisher, the Little Egret,Yellow-billed Storks,Woolly-necked Storks the Osprey the grey and Black-headed herons and the African Fish Eagle abound.

 

Snake ParkSnake & Crocodile Farms

The Bioken Laboratory and Snake Farm is located about 2 kilometers north of Watamu and is internationally known for having the biggest collection of snakes in Africa. It has a live collection of around 200 snakes of 30 different species.Crocodile farm – snake farm is open everyday from 9:00am to 5:00pm, with special feeding of crocodiles on Wednesday and Friday at 4:00pm. View a variety of poisonous and non-poisonous snakes while learning more about their habits.

 

 

Kipepeo ProjectThe Kipepeo Project

The Kipepeo Project is located in Arabuko Sokoke Forest where visitors have a chance to wonder and see a wide selection of the Arabuko Sokoke butterflies, up to 260 species.

Breeding and research is also carried out to ensure that a constant butterfly population is maintained throughout the year.

The Gede Historical Monument is a historical site where a long deserted Swahili town nestles amongst the coral rag forest.There is still a lot to learn about Gede, as it was never mentioned in Portuguese and Arab writings of the period, although they were ensconced not 15 kilometers away in Malindi. The town was a medieval Swahili settlement, walled, covering about a quarter of a square kilometer.
